This week is the last week of the shortened season in the Coastal Plain League due to COVID-19. Martinsville will play at home today against the HiToms, then they will hit the road for a game against Peninsula on Thursday and the HiToms on Friday. The team will wrap up the season with a home game Saturday against the HiToms. All games are at 7 p.m. The Mustangs are 6-8 in league play, 3 games behind Wilson. They are 18-10-1 overall.

The Atlantic Coast Conference reworked its football schedule to allow each team to play 11 games and to incorporate Notre Dame, which is giving up its cherished independence in a year turned upside down by the coronavirus pandemic. The ACC’s university presidents approved plans for a schedule with 10 conference games and one non-conference, and for pushing back both the first week of the season (from Labor Day weekend to the weekend of Sept. 12) and the league championship game (from Dec. 5 to either Dec. 12 or 19).

The Virginia High School League Executive Committee has voted to move all fall sports to the spring for the 2020-2021 school year. Basketball, swimming, and wrestling will run from Dec. 14 to Feb. 20. Football, volleyball, cross country, and golf will run from Feb. 15 to May 1. Baseball, softball, soccer, tennis, and track and field will run April 12 through June 26.
