Hospital Closure Not Expected to be Permanent

Good news from the Economic Development folks in Patrick County. They say they think they will have a new operator for the hospital by the end of the foreclosure proceeding. Back in September the Patrick County Hospital announced it was going to close. County officials say they have been busy trying to find a new owner, but now they are more worried about losing the hospital’s license than they are about finding a new owner. The license expires at the end of the year unless it can either be renewed or extended. Either action will likely take and act by the State Legislature. Earlier this week the Patrick County Board of Supervisors began looking into the possibility of employing paramedics because many of the volunteers can not take the time off work needed to make long commutes to out of town hospitals.
