Elizabeth Jones Announces Candidacy for the 16th District of the House of Delegates
CHATHAM – On Primary Day, Tuesday, June 11 at 1:00 p.m. Elizabeth Jones will hold a press conference in front of the Moses Building on Main Street in Chatham to announce her candidacy and launch her campaign for the 16th District House of Delegates.
“I’m thrilled and honored to announce my candidacy for the 16th District of the House of Delegates,” said Elizabeth Jones. As a participant in many Southside leadership initiatives and a graduate of the Sorenson Institute’s Candidate Training Program, I come to this election ready for the challenge.
I look forward to crisscrossing the district to meet families and business owners. When in Richmond I will work hard to attract new jobs in Southside, drive down the costs of public universities and colleges and protect our precious environment.”
Elizabeth Jones moved to Chatham in 2002 with her husband, Anderson and daughter, Afiya. Her husband was born and raised on the family farm in Chatham and always knew he would return when he retired. They own a house and farm with 20 acres of loblolly pine trees in Chatham.
Elizabeth Jones is a retired educator who worked in many positions in the New York City Public School System during her 32 year tenure. Jones holds four degrees ranging from an Associate’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, and two Master’s Degrees. She has been a classroom teacher, district coordinator and retired as an assistant principal.
Elizabeth Jones was licensed as a real estate broker in the State of New York for 25 years. She was also a commissioned notary public in NYS and is currently commissioned in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
In 2007 she was hired as the Pittsylvania County Assistant Registrar. As the Assistant Registrar, Jones worked in voter registrations and Election Day preparation for the county precincts. She retired in June, 2011.
Consistently involved in community causes and willing to volunteer, Elizabeth Jones was elected and serves as the Chair of the Pittsylvania County Democratic Committee. She serves as a trustee on the Pittsylvania County Public Library board. She is the branch secretary of the Pittsylvania County NAACP and youth advisor for the NAACP Youth Council. As a member of Shockoe Missionary Baptist Church, Jones currently writes children’s church programs and is the Vacation Bible School Director.
