Martinsville, VA — According to Ruth Easley, Martinsville Commissioner of the Revenue, due to Congressional action in late December that affected tax rates and deductions, the IRS has been correcting and updating tax forms that taxpayers will need to complete their 2012 income tax returns. Most of the forms and instructions are now available online at www.irs.gov. A limited number of forms and instructions are available in the Martinsville and Henry County Commissioner of the Revenue offices with the exception of the 1040 instruction booklet.
The 1040 forms are now available in both offices, but the instruction books for the 1040 forms are just now being printed. The 1040 instructions have been posted to the IRS website and may be downloaded. No shipment date for the printed copies of the instructions books has been set.
A limited number of Virginia Tax Forms are available in both revenue offices for taxpayers who do not have internet access. For those taxpayers who do have internet access they may either download Virginia tax forms and instructions from www.tax.virginia.gov or order individual forms and instructions online at: http://www.tax.virginia.gov/site.cfm?alias=individualformorders. It will take about 5 days for the forms and instructions to arrive through the mail.
The IRS has now begun accepting and processing tax returns that were filed prior to January 31, 2013. Taxpayers claiming any education credits must still wait until mid-February to file their 2012 tax returns.
