Stoneville man mauled by pit bulls in Henry County

On October 24, 2012 the Martinsville/Henry County 911 Center received a call from a motorist that a man was sitting on the shoulder of US 220 south of Ridgeway. It was reported that the man was bleeding. Members of the Ridgeway Rescue Squad and deputies with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene. The victim stated that he was attacked by pit bulls on Cabin Hill Drive. He sustained injuries to multiple areas of his body with extensive injuries to his extremities. The victim has been identified as James Perry Gann, 52, of Stoneville, North Carolina.

He was transported to the Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County and was subsequently transferred by helicopter to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He is currently undergoing surgery to repair the injuries he sustained. He is listed in critical but stable condition. Two pit bulls were transported to the Henry County Animal Shelter were they are being quarantined.
