State Trooper crashes cruiser on 58

The Virginia State Police are continuing their investigation into a single vehicle crash that occurred Sunday evening shortly before 7:00 pm on Route 58 just west of the Mayo River bridge in Henry County. The investigation revealed that a 2010 Ford police interceptor was traveling westbound on Route 58 when it hydroplaned on the wet roadway and caused the cruiser to run off the right side of the roadway striking an embankment before it over turned.

The driver Trooper Kevin D. Mabe, age 35 ,of Stuart, Virginia was wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash and was later transported to Martinsville Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries he sustained. Trooper Mabe is a 9 year veteran of the Virginia State Police.

There is no further information available at this time regarding the on going investigation.
