BREAKING NEWS: Martinsville Crews Working to Repair Power Outages, Deal with Heavy Rainfall
MARTINSVILLE, Va. – Martinsville City Electric and Public Works crews are pulling overtime this evening to repair electrical outages across the city. The heavy precipitation, which has fallen as mostly rain since early afternoon, has caused numerous problems on streets and residential areas.
Trees and branches have fallen across power lines in all areas of the city. All available repairman are on duty to repair the damage and restore service as quickly as possible. City customers experiencing outages should call 276-403-5138.
“We know this is an inconvenience for everyone affected. Rest assured, our crews are working at full capacity to restore service to everyone as quickly as possible. Right now, we just ask for the public’s patience as we deal with the effects of this storm,” said Electric Superintendent Dennis Bowles.
Although the precipitation has been mostly rain for hours now roads are still very treacherous and motorists are strongly urged to stay at home. “We have experienced a significant amount of precipitation over the last 16-18 hours and it will not end for some time yet. The snow that collects near drains also impedes the flow of runoff, causing excess water to back up into the street. We have very treacherous conditions on roads throughout the city at this hour (Friday, February 5 at 8:00 p.m.) and these may not improve until sometime tomorrow. Please stay home unless it is absolutely necessary,” said Public Safety Officer Bobby Phillips.
